With the start of a new season, I thought it might be good to address a common question…what should training be during a taper week…well here goes…
Put simply, it should look like any other week with one exception, less volume. For example, keeping your intense workouts but just doing less intervals or a long session shouldn’t be reduced.
Another key is to not do a lot of intensity very close to your race, meaning you may have to move a harder workout to earlier in the week before a race.
One last key is a pre-race tuneup. It’s usually done one or two days before the race and will have a very short intense component.
Experimenting with moving your workouts the week leading up to your race will help determine what best works for you…because what works for one person may or may not work for you.
